Opting out of cervical screening

If you decide that screening is not for you and you do not want any more invitations, you can opt out.

Complete and sign the 'Opt-out' form (PDF, 180kb, 1 page).

Send your completed form by freepost to:

CervicalCheck - The National Cervical Screening Programme,
Freepost LK407,

This means you will not get invited for screening in the future.

If you change your mind, you can have a free cervical screening test in the future. Contact us or a registered GP or clinic.

If you have had a hysterectomy

Opt-out requests have been temporarily paused if you have had a hysterectomy.

This is because we want to ensure the quality and safety of our screening service following an error in another country.

In Scotland, people who had undergone a subtotal hysterectomy were incorrectly removed from the Scottish cervical screening register.

There is no reason to believe that this error has happened in Ireland. But we want to review what has happened in Scotland to make sure it cannot happen here.

If you have already requested to opt out, we will contact you when the process has started again.

If you have previously opted out and have been offered a screening test you would like more information about, contact us using the details at the top of this page.
