The HSE Account is a web-based version of the HSE Health App.
This accessibility statement applies to all content in the HSE Account.
The Health Service Executive (HSE) manage the HSE Account.
Version 6.0 (released in July 2026) was tested for accessibility.
We want as many people as possible to be able to use the HSE Account.
For example, that means you should be able to:
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the HSE Account using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the HSE Account using speech recognition
- listen to most of the HSE Account using a screen reader
- view content in different ways without losing information or structure
Readability
We’ve made the HSE Account text as easy to understand as possible.
We use ‘readability’ tests as one way to measure how easy it is to understand our content.
We aim for a reading age of about 9 (grade 4).
Less accessible parts of the HSE Account
Some parts of the HSE Account are not fully accessible.
For example:
- some pages have links to websites or software that we do not own or manage, so we cannot guarantee their accessibility

Compliance status
The HSE Account is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1, Level A and AA standard.
Non-accessible content
Content that is not accessible on the HSE Account is listed below. We aim to fix these issues by April 2026.
Content that is not accessible:
- There is no way to skip repeated content blocks across pages.
- Some pages do not have focus and parsing order set to the top of the page. This may make it more difficult for assistive technology users to orientate themselves as they navigate the site.
- Some pages have content with fixed line heights and text spacings that cannot be modified. This means that people might find some passages of text harder to read, when larger font sizes are set.
- Some pages have colour contrast issues that may make our content harder to read for some users.
- Some pages have links that are not descriptive. This may make it more difficult for some users to navigate between pages.
- Some pages have controls (links and buttons) with the same name that link to different pages. This may make it harder for assistive technology users to scan by control name alone.
- Some pages have controls (links and buttons) that are not screen reader accessible, which may prevent them from performing certain actions.
- Not all changes in context are communicated to all users. This may make it more difficult for some users to understand when certain actions have been performed.
- Not all user interface components can be programmatically determined by all users.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 19 June 2026. It was last reviewed on 20 July 2026. The HSE Account was last tested for accessibility issues on 10 July 2026.
The test was carried out by HSE Digital.
How we did the test
We used the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level A and Level AA to test and audit the level of conformance.
We tested the HSE Account internally within our team. The HSE Account has been tested on different devices and assistive technologies.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We have assembled a multi-disciplinary team who are working on accessibility on an ongoing basis. We are fixing content which fails to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 AA standard. We will update this page when issues are fixed.
