We send you a pre-booked appointment for your free breast screening mammogram (x-ray).
When we send you an appointment
We aim to send you:
- your first appointment by age 52
- an appointment every 2 years after that, up to age 69
We send the appointment by post. You can also find your appointment details in the HSE Health App.
We include the breast screening unit location and instructions on how to find it.
If you want an appointment
If you did not get an appointment from us and think you should have, contact us.
Freephone: 1800 45 45 55
If you are waiting to get an appointment, make sure to give us your up-to-date contact information. You can do this online or by phone.
You will need your PPS number and date of birth.
If you have symptoms
Breast screening is not for people with symptoms of breast cancer.
Urgent advice: Contact your GP immediately if:
- you have concerns or symptoms of breast cancer
Even if you have had a recent normal breast screening result, never ignore symptoms.
If your breast screening mammogram is not due
If your free breast screening mammogram is not due but you want to have one, you can pay for a private mammogram. Talk to your GP about this.
Having a private mammogram
If you have a mammogram as a private patient, it is not part of the national breast screening programme - BreastCheck.
This means:
- the test will not be free
- we cannot add the results to your BreastCheck screening history
- the radiologist who reviews your private mammogram will not have access to your BreastCheck screening history
If you missed an appointment
If you were invited for a breast screening mammogram but missed it, contact us for a new appointment.
You can do this even if you were invited weeks, months or years ago.
