Parking

Parking is available on site. The car park is located at the front of the hospital and can get full during busy periods. Car parking at University Maternity Hospital Limerick is free of charge.

Visiting Hours

Access for nominated support partners

UMHL continues to facilitate daily 8am to 9pm access for nominated support partners to all three of the hospital’s inpatient wards. Nominated support partners also attend for first appointments in the antenatal clinic, as well as the growth scan (32 to 34 weeks)

Nominated support partners will have access to the following areas in UMHL, regardless of vaccination status

Clinics

  • Antenatal Clinic for first appointment.
  • 12 week dating scan.
  • 22 to 24 weeks anomaly scan.
  • 32 to 34 weeks growth scan.

Wards, EPAU, high risk admissions

  • Labour Ward throughout labour and delivery.
  • Theatre including elective and emergency C-Section.
  • Antenatal Ward and Postnatal Wards 8am to 9pm daily.
  • designated time slots for fathers/parents of babies in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU).
  • Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU).
  • Emergency high risk admissions

Access on compassionate grounds will continu.e to be facilitated.

Children are not allowed to visit the hospital.

In the interests of inpatient and staff safety, nominated support partners are asked not to access the hospital if they have symptoms of COVID-19 (high temperature, cough or shortness of breath).

Maternity Emergency Unit

The MEU (Maternity Emergency unit) is a 6-bed emergency unit located on the upper ground floor of UMHL, directly behind the main reception. The MEU operates a 24-hour service to women, providing high-quality emergency care. The service is operated by a CMM2 with a team of midwives and 24-hour obstetric cover.

Services also held in this department include the elective admissions to the hospital, daily Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit by appointment only/GP referral.

A Termination of Pregnancy Clinic is held twice weekly and consultant-led, by Appointments from GP referral direct to the consultant.

Women can call MEU directly on (061) 483144 where they can speak to a midwife.

From Limerick city centre: Route 302 (Henry street to Strand Hotel, Ennis Road), from Limerick Bus / Train station: Route 323 (to Arthur’s Quay), from Tipperary: Route 55, (Tipperary to Limerick Bus Station) + Route 323 and from Ennis: Route 51 (Ennis Bus station to Shannon Airport) + Route 343 (from Shannon towards to The Strand Hotel).

Restaurants

Nourish Café is located on the first floor of the hospital.

The café offers a range of hot and cold food, including soup, sandwiches, wraps, rolls, paninis, salads and breakfast items. Halal and dairy-free options are available.

Opening hours are Monday to Sunday, 8am to 8pm, including bank holidays.

Our hospital canteen is open to visitors. In the morning (9.30am to 11am), it offers a selection of beverages, freshly baked scones and cooked breakfast options.

During lunch hours (12.30pm to 2pm), you can choose from a variety of wraps, sandwiches, salads and hot meals. The canteen is open every day including bank holidays.

Vending Machines

Vending machines are situated in the canteen and the shop areas.

Shop

There is a shop located in Nourish Café on the first floor. Sweet treats, snacks, newspapers, magazines and greeting cards, as well as personal care items are available to buy.

Opening hours are Monday to Sunday, 8am to 8pm, including Bank Holidays. The shop is open to visitors and patients.

Pharmacy

There is no pharmacy in the hospital.

ATM

There is no ATM in the hospital.

Internet Access

There is no WiFi available at the hospital.

Pastoral Care

There is an oratory located within the hospital outside the neo natal unit on the ground floor.

Patient Advocacy Liaison Service (PALS)

The Patient Advocacy Liaison Service (PALS) volunteers help patients and visitors in University Hospital Limerick, Nenagh Hospital and Ennis Hospital. PALS volunteers welcome patients and visitors and help them find their way around our hospitals. They serve in a variety of roles; way-finders, patient companions, information guides. Volunteers also help with any general queries people may have. This could be arranging a taxi or how to give feedback on their hospital experience. They are dressed in red with an embroidered yellow logo.

You can pay your bill over the phone, by post or in person at the patient accounts office. The office is open Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm.
