Neurology
Neurology is the branch of medicine or biology that deals with the anatomy, functions, and organic disorders of nerves and the nervous system. Neurology deals with the treatment and management of disorders that affect the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (nerves and muscles which activate movement and transmit sensation from all parts of the body to the brain) including stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone, Parkinsons and muscular dystrophy.
Neurophysiology service
We perform neurological investigations for both inpatients and outpatients, including electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), and visual evoked potentials (VEP). EEG records brain activity with sensors on the scalp to diagnose conditions like epilepsy. EMG uses a small needle to measure muscle activity and detect muscle and nerve problems. NCS checks how well and fast electrical signals travel through nerves, which is useful for diagnosing nerve issues like carpal tunnel syndrome. VEP tests how the brain responds to visual signals to help diagnose problems with vision pathways, such as in multiple sclerosis. These tests help us investigate conditions like seizures, nerve damage, and multiple sclerosis.
