Parking
There are three car parks on the hospital campus. The cost for parking is €2 per hour for the first 2 hours and €1 an hour after that. The maximum parking charge for 24 hours is €10. The ticket machines accept cash only. There are ATMs in the Bank branch across the road from the hospital and the service station next to the hospital.
Visiting hours
Visitors are welcome daily from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 9pm. Visitors must use our online booking system to book a visit. Ward staff will help with any queries you may have about your booking. Two visitors per patient per day are permitted.
Visiting restrictions remain in place in the Emergency Department, Acute Surgical Assessment Unit, and Acute Medical Assessment Unit.
The only exceptions to visiting in those areas are:
- Parents visiting children in hospital.
- People assisting confused patients, for example, dementia.
- On compassionate grounds, for example, for patients who are critically unwell or at end of life.
All exceptions are limited to one person per patient and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
In cases where exceptions apply, we recommend that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before coming to the hospital.
Visiting arrangements are kept under review and updated in line with Infection Prevention & Control Guidelines.
Restaurants
There are two cafés in the hospital. The main reception and general admissions café opening hours are 8am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday and 9am to 8pm, Sunday and bank holidays. There is also a coffee shop in the emergency department which is open 8am to 10pm.
Vending machines
Vending machines are located throughout the hospital.
Transport
From Colbert train/bus station, walk to Hyde Rd (opposite Post Office). Bus 301 departs every 15 mins. Bus route numbers 301 and 304 stop outside the hospital. There is a bus stop outside the main gate of UHL. Taxis are available at the station and our reception staff can call a taxi for people.
Shop
The shop is beside main reception.
Opening Hours are Monday to Saturday from 7am to 8pm. Sunday and bank holidays from 9am to 8pm.
Pharmacy
The Hospital pharmacy is located on the second floor of the hospital. The pharmacy is for inpatients only.
ATM
There are ATMs in the Bank Of Ireland across the road from the hospital and the service station next to the hospital. Cashback is available from the shops on the hospital campus.
Internet Access
Free WiFi is available on the ‘Eirguest’ network.
Chapel
The University Hospital Limerick Chapel is located on the ground floor of the administration building. It is open daily from 7.30am to 7.30pm. Mass is held Monday to Friday at 1pm, Saturdays at 7pm and Sundays at 10am. Adoration takes place Monday to Friday from 12pm to 1pm.
The Pastoral Care Team can be contacted on 061 482192 or by contacting a member of staff at reception or through the ward staff.
Patient Advocacy Liaison Service (PALS)
The Patient Advocacy and Liaison Service (PALS) team acts as a point of contact between patients, their families or carers and the hospital. If you have concerns about any aspect of your care or service in University Hospital Limerick, we advise you to speak to the person in charge of the area as they are best placed to address your concerns as quickly as possible.
If you feel that your concerns have not been addressed or if you would like the support of an advocate, the PALS team can assist you. The PALS team works on initiatives and ways to improve the patient experience by listening and responding to what matters to our patients. PALS also helps support those who are most vulnerable throughout their hospital experience.
The PALS service is available from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm; any contact made outside of these hours will be responded to on the next working day.

We have a dedicated PALS team based in our Emergency Department (ED). They are there to support patients and their families. The ED PALS team also provides a clinic in the department to support listen and advise patients and families during their ED stay. The clinic is open from 2pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
