Podiatry

Podiatry specialises in the management and treatment of disorders affecting the lower limb. Podiatry can significantly improve a person’s quality of life by promoting and maintaining mobility. A podiatrist is an autonomous clinician who specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and management of lower limb conditions. All Podiatrists are registered with CORU (Health & Social Care regulator in Ireland) and have completed a minimum of three years of accredited training at degree level or an equivalent qualification. The service focuses on those who have the greatest risk of developing foot complications associated with certain medical conditions like: • Diabetes • Rheumatoid Arthritis • Vascular Insufficiency • Neurological conditions • Musculoskeletal disorders The service provides: • Wound care (Non-diabetes) • Vascular assessments and treatments • Neurological assessments and treatments • Musculoskeletal assessment and treatment (functional and structural issues of the foot and ankle) • Orthotic/footwear prescription Exclusion: For all other routine care such as nails and callous please see list of podiatrists and chiropodists. If you are over 65 with a medical card you may qualify for a chiropody card in Dublin or Wicklow. You can obtain these forms through your GP or the Health Service Executive. How do I get referred/Referral The podiatry service accepts referrals from GPs (doctors) and other health professionals to the central podiatry service in CHO6 (Dublin South & Wicklow)
