Neurophysiology
We perform neurological investigations for both inpatients and outpatients. Our specific tests, include electroencephalography (EEG); electromyography (EMG); nerve conduction studies (NCS) and visual evoked potentials (VEP). We also investigate seizure disorders, neuropathies, and multiple sclerosis.
Electroencephalograpy (EEG)
An EEG examines the electrical activity in the brain. Brain cells communicate using electrical impulses, which an EEG amplifies and records as electrical waveforms. These patterns give insights into brain function and can indicate conditions like epilepsy. Small cup-shaped discs are placed at regular intervals on the patient’s scalp, secured with paste, and connected to an EEG machine. The procedure, overseen by a specialist clinical scientist, typically includes simultaneous video recording and lasts about one hour.
