Anaesthetic
If you are having surgery or tests, you may require anaesthesia. This is to reduce or prevent pain, numb sensation in certain areas of the body and can induce sleep. The Department of Anaesthetics provides anaesthetic care for a wide range of surgical patients. There are 2 common types: Local anaesthetic: a small area of the body is numbed and you remain fully conscious, often used during minor procedures. General anaesthetic: you're totally unconscious and unaware of the procedure, this is often used for more serious operations.
