About Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a nonsurgical procedure used to examine a person's digestive tract to diagnose, evaluate and treat conditions of the oesophagus, stomach and portion of the intestine. The aim of the Endoscopy team at Ennis Hospital is to provide a diagnosis and treatment for people with symptoms of upper and lower gastrointestinal problems. We also provide Urology services e.g Cystoscopy, prostate biopsy and ESWL

About Endoscopy Service

Patients will receive by post details of the endoscopy/urology procedure and what preparation may be required prior to appointment. If you are a diabetic or are taking an anticoagulant, check with your GP or the endoscopy team for instructions of what is required on days leading to your procedure. All cardiac/blood pressure medication should be taken on the morning of your procedure with a sip of water. You may require sedation for an endoscopy procedure. Please organise a drive home otherwise your procedure may be rescheduled. There is no sedation for urology procedures therefore it is safe to drive home afterwards.
