Medical card applications for 16-25 year olds

If you are dependent on a parent or guardian and they have a medical card or GP visit card after a financial assessment, you will also get a card. But you must also submit your own application.

Parent or guardian does not have a medical card

You can still apply for a medical card if your parent or guardian does not have one.

Financially independent

If you are financially independent you can still apply if you live with your parents or guardians and you:

  • earn more than €164 a week, or
  • you live on your own and earn more than €184 a week

Financially dependent on a parent or guardian

If you are financially dependent on a parent or guardian and they do not have a medical or GP visit card, you should apply if you have a medical condition.

You will need your parents or guardians to make an application too. Send both applications together.

As a dependant, you will qualify if your parents or guardians qualify.

If you have any questions before you apply, phone us on 0818 22 44 78.
