Psychology Services Adult Services
A clinical psychologist is someone who is trained to help people with a range of emotional, behavioural and developmental concerns. These difficulties may be affecting how someone is feeling, thinking, or behaving. Psychologists use their knowledge to help people understand their difficulties and explore ways to make positive changes. Psychologists within the Wicklow Primary Care Child & Adolescent Service are professionally qualified Clinical Psychologists with accredited undergraduate and post-graduate qualifications. The service is based in various locations covering 4 different catchment areas. The areas covered by each catchment area are: The Bray Primary Care Network, covering the four Bray Primary Care Teams. This service is based out of Bray Primary Care Centre. Service is available for adults with mild to moderate psychological difficulties ,including reactive depression, general anxiety, loss and bereavement, life cycle developmental issues, adjustment problems, health related psychological difficulties and stress and trauma.
Referrals and Appointments
Who needs to refer you
Self referral, GP, PHN, health professionals
Referral information
We require a written referral (either the primary care referral form or a letter outlining concerns) to add a child’s name to the waiting list. All referrals are discussed at the monthly referrals meeting of the Wicklow Primary Care Psychology Team. The purpose of this referral meeting is to ensure that all referrals are appropriately placed as we endeavour to provide an efficient psychology service in Co. Wicklow. Once a referral has been discussed and accepted, the individual is placed onto the waiting list in order of referral date and is offered an appointment as soon as possible. We have found that due to concerns about waiting times and uncertainty about the correct service, individuals have been referred to more than one service at the same time. We would ask that you avoid doing this as it can make it difficult for us to accurately judge waiting times and service needs. If you are unsure about which service to refer to we are always happy to discuss this with you by phone in advance of sending in a referral.
