The National Forensic Mental Health Service (NFMHS) provides forensic mental health services. The Central Mental Hospital is part of the NFMHS.
The Central Mental Hospital can provide care for up to 130 patients in the Portrane facility. The NFMHS provides community and prison in-reach services.
When fully commissioned, the NFMHS will also have a Forensic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (FCAMHS) Unit and Intensive Care Rehabilitation Unit (ICRU).
