Human trafficking

Our Anti Human Trafficking Team (AHTT) helps people who:

  • are experiencing human trafficking now
  • were trafficked in the past - in Ireland or in another country

This service is free and confidential.

Signs of human trafficking

It can be hard to know if someone is being trafficked. You might not realise that it is happening to you.

If you are worried about yourself or someone else there are signs to look for.

These include if a person or a group of people:

  • move you to different places
  • force you to work for low pay or no pay
  • make you beg or commit crimes
  • use you for sex or prostitution
  • use threats or lies to control you
  • say you owe money for things such as travel or accommodation
  • trick you to take your organs
  • offer you a job but then make you do other things you do not want to do

Supports available

We will work with you to identify your needs and offer support such as:

  • individual support and planning
  • mental health supports
  • health services, such as GP, nursing and sexual health
  • guidance on legal, immigration and protection
  • state supports, education, employment and community resources
  • adjusting to life in Ireland

What to expect when you meet us

When you contact us, tell us if you need an interpreter.

You can meet us online or in person. At the first meeting, one of our team members will talk to you about your situation and needs.

These include:

  • health
  • safety
  • finance
  • housing
  • education
  • legal
  • international protection

They will ask if you want to share your information with the Gardaí (the Irish police force). You or someone you trust can contact the Gardaí. But we can help you talk to the Gardaí if you want. This is to officially identify you as a human trafficking victim.

If you do this, you will not be deported or sent home.

You can get:

  • support from our services
  • a place to stay, if you need it
  • support like social welfare benefits, legal advice, and education and training
  • help to go back home, if you want it

If you need care that we cannot provide, we can refer you to other services. We will ask you before we do that.

We will not talk to the Gardaí without your permission. Your personal information will stay confidential.
