Anaesthetic

If you are having surgery or tests, you may require anaesthesia. This is to reduce or prevent pain, numb sensation in certain areas of the body and can induce sleep. The department of anaesthetics provides anaesthetic care for a wide range of surgical patients. There are two common types: Local anaesthetic: a small area of the body is numbed and you remain fully conscious, often used during minor procedures. General anaesthetic: you're totally unconscious and unaware of the procedure, this is often used for more serious operations.

Perioperative Anaesthesia

Anaesthetics deal with administering medications either by injection or by inhalation (breathing in) that block the feeling of pain and other sensations, or that produce a deep state of unconsciousness that eliminates all sensations, which allows medical and surgical procedures to be undertaken without causing undue distress or discomfort.
