You do not need an appointment for the Emergency and Assessment Unit.
Emergency and Assessment Units are open 24 hours for women with:
- signs of labour
- complications of pregnancy
- complications in the postnatal period
- acute gynaecological emergencies
Urgent advice:Go to an Emergency and Assessment Unit if:
- you are concerned that your baby’s normal pattern of movements has changed
- you experience any vaginal bleeding
- your waters have broken or you have any signs of labour and you are less than 37 weeks pregnant

Referral information
Women can call MEU directly where they can speak to a midwife. Early pregnancy assessment unit by appointment only/GP referral. A termination of pregnancy clinic is held twice weekly and consultant-led, by appointments from GP referral direct to the consultant.
