If you have problems registering online

This page has information that may be helpful if you are having problems registering on the HSE data notification service.

It includes advice on:

How to register online

  1. Go to the HSE data notification service.
  2. Select 'Register'.
  3. On the sign in screen, select ‘Sign up now’ - you'll find this below the ‘Sign in’ button.
  4. Enter your email address – you will get a code by email.
  5. Enter the code from your email.
  6. Create a password for your account and enter your last name and your unique PIN - the PIN is on the top left corner of your letter.
  7. Enter your mobile phone number - you will get a verification text message (SMS).
  8. Enter the code you receive in the text message.
  9. Select 'agree' to allow us use your personal information to confirm your identity. If you do not consent, you cannot continue.
  10. Select 'Send SMS' to begin the ID verification process. You will get a text message with a link to download the ID-Pal app we use to confirm your identity.
  11. Download IP-Pal and follow the instructions in the app. You will get a notification in the app when your ID is confirmed.

When your ID is confirmed, you can log in to the service using the username and password you created.

Creating your password

You must choose a strong, secure password. This is to protect your personal information.

Your password must contain at least:

  • 8 characters
  • 1 uppercase letter
  • 1 lowercase letter
  • 1 number
  • 1 special character - special characters include '*&%$!>"{+'

A good way to choose a secure password you can remember is to use 3 random words with numbers and symbols.

If you do not get a text with a link to the ID-Pal app

Texts and emails you will receive

When you register online, we will send you an email with a code to verify your email address.

We will also send you a text message:

  • with a code to verify your mobile number
  • with a link to download the ID-Pal application on your phone
  • to confirm when your account has been verified successfully

If you request your documents, we will send you a text message when they are ready to view or download.

If you request a phone call from us, we will send you a text message after you book your call. This is to confirm the date and time of your call.

Checking your identity

We need to verify your identity by text, email and through the ID-Pal app.

There are 3 verification steps. This is for security. We want to make sure that only you can access your personal data.

How to use ID-Pal

To make sure that your details match who you are, we are using a mobile phone application called ID-Pal app. The app will help us to confirm your identity.

We will text you a link to download the ID-Pal app.

In the app you will need to:

  1. Take a photo of your photo ID - you can use a passport, driving licence or public services card.
  2. Take a photo of yourself.
  3. Select 'next'.
  4. Enter your address.
  5. Submit your details to the HSE.

We will confirm in the app and on the data notification service when your ID verification is complete.

You can then log in to the data notification service using your username and password.

If you are having problems using ID-Pal - id-pal.com

If you do not get a text message to download ID-Pal

If you do not get a text message to download the ID-Pal app, check:

  • that the mobile number you registered with is correct
  • the spam folder in your text messages app, on your phone

Some phones put messages from unknown senders in a spam folder. You can usually find the spam folder by selecting the three-line menu at the top of the message app.

Phones that do this use the Android operating system. This does not affect you if you have an iPhone.

If you cannot register online

No phone or email address

Register with your own email address and mobile phone number if you can. This is to protect your personal information and your confidentiality.

Important

Only use someone else's email address or phone number if you trust that they will not misuse your personal information.

If you use someone else's email address or mobile phone number they will be:

  • able to access your account
  • notified when your documents are available to view

If you use someone else's email address, that person will not be able to use the same address again if they later need to register for themselves.

You can only use an email address once to register.

Smartphone

You cannot register online if you do not have a smartphone. But someone can register for you or you can register by post.
