Biography
Dr Uzma Mahmood is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in HSE Mid West. Dr Mahmood provides general obstetric care and a wide range of benign Obstetrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology service including abnormal menstrual bleeding, endometriosis, fibroid, ovarian cyst, prolapse. Her area of expertise is minimally invasive Obstetrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology surgery which provides less pain, quicker recovery and shorter hospital stay. She is also a certified colposcopist and robotic Obstetrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology surgeon.
Dr Uzma Mahmood is a medical graduate from Punjab University, Pakistan and a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (2008) and the Royal College of Obstetrics and Obstetrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Gynaecologists (2009). She received her MD from the University College Cork (2012), following studies on fetal microchimerism and maternal wound healing. Dr Mahmood has successfully completed her specialist training in the Irish training scheme and has worked in a number of hospitals across the country including the 3 busiest maternity hospitals namely the Rotunda, Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital and Cork University Maternity Hospital where she has gained significant experience managing all aspects of pregnancy. She was awarded Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training (CSCST) by the Irish Committee on Higher Training in 2017 and has been on the Medical Council’s register of medical specialists since then. She completed her Graduate Certificate in Obstetric Ultrasound in 2015 from UCD and is a certified Colposcopist. She pursued further speciality training in robotic benign gynaecological surgery in Cork 2017.
Dr Mahmood took up a post as Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at University Maternity Hospital Limerick in 2018. She is the lead clinician for the early pregnancy clinic and is lead in Robotic gynaecological surgery in Limerick.
Her research has resulted in many peer-reviewed original papers and published conference proceedings. Uzma’s research interests include, polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, minimally invasive and Robotic gynaecological surgery. She is a member of the British Society for Gynaecological endoscopy, Society of European Robotic Gynaecological Surgery, and the British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.
Uzma is committed to undergraduate and postgraduate training and is passionate about providing excellent obstetric and gynaecological care for women attending University Maternity Hospital Limerick. She provides regular training for medical and midwifery staff on obstetric ultrasound and obstetric emergencies.
