Biography

Dr. Umair Aleem is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at University Hospital Limerick.

Dr. Aleem graduated from King Edward Medical University, Pakistan, in 2010. He completed his clinical rotation at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada, and his internship at Mayo Hospital, Lahore. He briefly worked at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) before moving to Ireland, where he completed his basic and higher specialist training in Medical Oncology. He joined the specialist division of the Irish Medical Council in 2021 and is also registered in Medical Oncology with the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK.

He holds postgraduate membership in General Internal Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCPI), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (MRCP UK), and MRCP in Medical Oncology from the Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians and ACP (UK). Additionally, he has postgraduate certification in Clinical Cancer Genetics from RCPI Dublin and Medical Education certification from the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO).

Dr. Aleem has gained extensive experience working in Medical Oncology across various hospitals in Ireland, including St. James’s Hospital, Tallaght University Hospital, and St. Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin. He served as a Consultant Oncologist at Tallaght University Hospital in 2022 before undertaking a post-CCT fellowship in Renal/Genitourinary (GU) Cancer Medicine at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester. At The Christie, he was an Associate Principal Investigator for the Refine Clinical Trial and served as a Sub-Investigator on several renal cancer trials. He is an active GMC Associate Examiner for the PLAB, an Examiner with the Royal College of Physicians, and a Question Writing Working Group member for the Medical Oncology SCE exam with the RCP UK.

Dr. Aleem is a member of the Association of Cancer Physicians (ACP UK), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the National Institute for Health Care Research (UK), and Cancer Trials Ireland. Alongside his clinical work, he is deeply committed to quality improvement, research, and the education and training of junior doctors.

Dr. Aleem’s areas of Interest include Kidney Cancer, Pancreatic Cancer, Cancer Genetics, Clinical Trials, Immunotherapy, Cancer Survivorship, Medical Education.
Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Aleem enjoys cricket and travelling.
