Biography
Dr. Maeve Skelly graduated with Honours from UCD in 1989, and trained in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine in St Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin in both the Liver Unit and the Colorectal Unit. Concurrently she obtained a PhD in Medicine from UCD for studies on colonic epithelial immune interaction. She completed her training in Queen’s Medical Centre Nottingham and was a Lecturer in Medicine in University of Nottingham before she was appointed a Consultant in Sheffield University Hospitals. Dr Skelly was appointed a Consultant in University Hospital Limerick in 2005. She was awarded Fellowship of RCPI in 2007.
Dr. Skelly won the William Stokes award of RCPI in 1997 and Rising Star award of United Gastroenterology Week in 1998. She has served as Treasurer of Irish Society of Gastroenterology, BST Programme Director of RCPI Mid West, elected member of Council of RCPI 2009 to 2018, Censor of RCPI 2016-2018 and member of Finance Audit Risk Committee of RCPI 2018 to date. Dr Skelly was awarded Diploma in Quality Improvement and Leadership of RCPI in 2015 and since 2013 has been on the national Committee for QI in Endoscopy. She is an RCPI approved Trainer for GI Endoscopy.
