Jude Ryan

Biography

Dr. Jude Ryan graduated from NUIG in 1999. Jude trained in Geriatrics and General Internal Medicine with rotations at University Hospital Limerick, St. Luke’s Hospital Kilkenny, Cork University Hospital, St James’s Hospital and St Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin with an overseas training year at Kings College Hospital, London. During specialist training at UHL and King’s College Hospital, London Dr Ryan sub-specialised in orthogeriatrics and since her return to Limerick she has established an orthogeriatric service which is dedicated to the medical care of older patients with hip fractures. She was appointed Consultant Physician at University Hospital Galway 2012-2013. She also completed Specialist Training in Geriatric and General Internal Medicine in July 2012.

Dr Ryan was appointed to University Hospital Limerick in January 2013 as an Acute Medicine Physician and Geriatrician. In this role she was involved in the exciting development of the Acute Medical Unit and continues to work to implement improved delivery of acute medicine to patients in the Midwest region. Dr Ryan has an acute medicine sessional commitment to St John’s Hospital. She is also a lecturer at UL Graduate Entry Medical School.

She conducted award-winning research into immunomodulation of host responses to hospital acquired infection in older patients at the Department of Medicine; Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre, NUI, Cork 2004-2006.

A member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland since 2006, she was awarded an MD by thesis in 2009 and Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training in 2012. She is a member of the Irish Gerontolological Society, the American Society of Bone; Mineral Research and the Irish Society of Acute Medicine. Jude has a lead geriatric role in the Irish National Hip Fracture Database Steering Group.
