Biography
Fergal Cummins gained his primary medical degree from University College Cork (National University of Ireland). He is a consultant in Emergency Medicine and Retrieval Medicine. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine, a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons and Physicians in Ireland. In addition, he holds a Masters degree in Disaster Medicine from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium) and from the Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale 'Amedeo Avogadro' (Italy).
He has worked as a medical consultant in Emergency Medicine and Retrieval Medicine in Europe, Australasia and the Middle East. In addition, he has held the position of medical director for a European medical retrieval organisation. He has held academic positions at the Universities of Sydney, Australia, the Charles Sturt University, Australia and the University of Limerick, Ireland.
He has worked in University Hospital Limerick (UHL) since 2010. While on sabbatical he joined National Ambulance, United Arab Emirates (UAE) where he was responsible for the development and management of clinical services for National Ambulance in the UAE. While in the UAE he worked clinically as a consultant in emergency medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Since his return to UHL, he has been responsible for the Retrieval, Emergency and Disaster Medicine Research and Development Unit, REDSPOT, at the emergency department.
