Biography
Dr Alex Duguid is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospital Limerick & Croom Orthopaedic Hospital with an interest in Limb Reconstruction and Surgery of the Foot and Ankle. He joined the hospital team in August 2024.
Dr Duguid graduated from Nottingham University Medical School in 2009 and trained in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in Nottingham and Glasgow. In November 2021, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Tr+Orth).
Following this, Dr Duguid completed fellowships in Adult Limb Reconstruction at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Trust and in Foot and Ankle Surgery at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry. He gained experience in the management of complex periarticular trauma, the use of fine-wire hexapod frames, and the management of fracture related infection, non-union and deformity. He also developed skills across the breadth of foot and ankle surgery, including ankle arthroplasty.
A strong advocate for collaborative research, Dr. Duguid has participated in multiple clinical trials as a site investigator. He is an active member of both the Irish and British Foot and Ankle Surgery Societies and has presented his research at the British Limb Reconstruction Society as well. Research interests include the management of diabetic foot and Charcot foot reconstruction.
