Biography

Dr McManus qualified in 1997 from NUIG. He completed his specialist training in Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine in 2007 after working in both University Hospital Limerick and King’s College Hospital in London. He subsequently did a stroke fellowship at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London. Prior to his appointment as a consultant physician at UHL in 2013, he worked as a consultant geriatrician at King’s College Hospital London, the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore and University Hospital Kerry. At UHL, Dr Mc Manus supports the Acute Medical Assessment Unit and works there one to two days a week. In addition, he is on the general medicine and stroke medicine on call rotas at the hospital. Dr Mc Manus is presently one of the clinical leads for stroke at UHL. He is a member of the Stroke Clinical Advisory Group (CAG) for the RCPI. He has an interest in postgraduate medical education and is presently the Regional Programme Director for the Midwest Medical Basic Specialty Scheme (BST) scheme.
