If you think you have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, you do not need to do anything.
You should:
- watch out for symptoms of COVID-19 - it can take up to 14 days after you are infected for symptoms to show
- take extra care to follow the advice on protecting others from COVID-19, in case you have the virus
Testing for COVID-19
You do not need to do a test for COVID-19 unless a healthcare professional asks you to.
If you choose to do a test and it is positive, stay at home for at least 5 days even if you do not have symptoms.
People at higher risk
If you are at a higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19, you should take extra care to watch out for symptoms. For example, if you have a weak immune system or an underlying health condition.
Non-urgent advice: Phone a GP if you have:
- symptoms of COVID-19 and feel very unwell
- an underlying condition that puts you at higher risk of severe disease
