About Midwifery
Midwifery encompasses care of women during pregnancy, labour, and the postpartum period, as well as care of the newborn.
About Community Midwifery Service
You will attend a "booking" appointment at the hospital when you are approximately 12 weeks pregnant. Here you will have a scan, see a midwife and a doctor. Once your pregnancy is confirmed normal risk and you live in Limerick City or Ennis, you can request to continue your care under the Community Midwives. You will return to the hospital for scans, to see a doctor if deemed necessary and to have your baby. You will also have antenatal checks with your GP.
