If you test positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus) you can use the app to share your close contacts with the contact tracing team. This is done anonymously using random IDs. You will not know any details about your close contacts and they will not know your details.
Sharing them through the app helps make sure that anyone you have been in close contact with is alerted. This speeds up contact tracing. It's your choice if you want to do this.
Get upload code
Our contact tracing team will phone you and ask you for details of your close contacts. They will also ask if you are using the app.
If you have the app, they will send you a unique upload code by text message. This code allows the app to upload your close contacts anonymously.
Only the contact tracing team can issue upload codes.
Uploading your close contacts
When you receive the upload code:
- open the app
- tap on the 'contact tracing' icon along the bottom of the app
- scroll down and tap 'Upload your random IDs'
- enter your unique code (you can copy and paste this from the text message)
The app will upload the random IDs that your phone has gathered over the last 14 days. These IDs contain information about how close you were to another app user and how long you were close to them.
Your privacy is protected
Your random IDs are anonymous and protect your privacy when you upload them. No one will know your personal details unless you choose to share them. This includes the HSE.
No one will know:
- your name
- who you met or were in contact with
- the locations you were in
- who tested positive for COVID-19
